Prebiotic inulin-type fructans induce specific changes in the human gut microbiota

Inulin had a modest effect on overall gut microbiota composition, concentrated in three genera — Bifidobacterium, Anaerostipes and Bilophila. The fall in Bilophila was linked to softer stools and better constipation-related quality of life; faecal metabolites did not change significantly.
