Triglycerides are the main form in which the body stores and ships fat for energy, measured after an overnight fast. Raised levels travel with insulin resistance, excess refined carbohydrate, alcohol and abdominal fat, and add to cardiovascular risk alongside cholesterol. Of all the blood lipids they are the most diet-responsive: cutting sugar, refined starch and alcohol, losing excess weight and eating oily fish can move them quickly.
